This is starting to get tiring. Three games in a row this team has failed to generate consistent offense.
Sure, they started out pretty strong, but after the botched offside call, they were done for. Even Tim Jackman’s fight at the end of the game was pretty pathetic.
Is there another line on this team besides the one with Matt Moulson, John Tavares and Kyle Okposo that can get some shots on the net? Those guys are working their arses off and if they could get one more line with some chemistry, things might change a tad.
Maybe they’ll score two goals a game.
Josh Bailey has got to shoot more. Six shots on goal in six games is pathetic. Same thing goes for Sean Bergenheim, who has been a non-factor as well. I’d like to see Blake Comeau grow a pair too and start getting a little more aggressive in front of the net and shooting more.
Here’s the million dollar question: how are you supposed to have a youth movement when the kids aren’t ready to even be supporting characters?
Doug Weight needs to aim a bit lower too.
Jon Sim needs to play the way he did before the team sent him to Bridgeport… or else threaten him with it. All jokes aside, he hasn’t been all that bad, I’m just pissy right now.
Without guys like Trent Hunter and Frans Nielsen in the lineup, I think this team is missing two big catalysts.
On top of that, this team needs to play more physical. I don’t care what the hit stat says, this team needs someone to go out there and just take the body every time they get on the ice.
Joel Rechlicz had virtually no ice time on Saturday on top of everything else as well, so this team was flat on the boards, in front of the night and with their fists.
Marty Biron was decent, but the defense was far from spectacular and let the Sharks skate wherever they wanted.
Overall, it just wasn’t a fun game to watch.

The first year I started this site, I had a plethora of trolls that hated when ever I would dog Islanders goalie and resident heart throb Rick DiPietro. They’d say things like “Give him time,†“His mistakes aren’t enough to outweigh his ability,†or even “Shut up loser; you have no idea what you’re talking about.†Last season however, before he rammed his head into Steve Begin, my attitude began to change and I found another player to pick on, Andy Hilbert.
In the beginning, Jeff Tambellini needed time. It was a situation that is beginning to feel all to similar to Islanders fans over the past few years. The team deals a few veterans after they feel they don’t have what it takes to make the playoffs and youth comes in. He was still green after putting the finishing touches on his college career and finishing up his first year in the AHL, but he still had a ton of promise.
Just to see a group of young kids like this, mixed with a few misfit veterans hold the ice with the best team in hockey yesterday meant a lot to determining what this team is going to be capable of in the future.
This is always one of my favorites times of the year, but the way things are going with the Islanders this year, things have the potential of getting very ugly, very fast.
Anyone who had a problem with the way this team played tonight is either a Ranger fan or out of their mind.
Once the dust has settled on this win, the rest of the NHL will consider it a fluke. They’ll say that the Devils didn’t stick to their system and came out flat. Then they’ll say the Islanders, who despite having a depleted lineup after trading away two of their better players the night before, were just plain lucky.
With Doug Weight out for the next six to eight weeks, the Islanders are banking on the youngsters continuing to produce the way they have been over the past few games. The way things have been lately, with Kyle Okposo starting to come into his own and players the likes of Frans Nielsen, Blake Comeau and Josh Bailey causing a stir on the ice by doing the little things like finishing their checks and getting themselves to the front of the net, I have no reason why these guys would just stop playing well all of a sudden.
When nothing is going right, do you try a quick fix or do you wait it out and possibly torment your fan-base and organization more?
