Colin McDonald of the New York Islanders played five games for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. Now, he's been given two games of suspension for a hit against the Penguins on Tuesday night.
From the NHL:
New York Islanders forward Colin McDonald has been suspended for two games for boarding Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy in NHL Game No. 83 in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, January 29, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, McDonald will forfeit $7,567.56. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
So McDonald had plenty of time not to make the hit, seeing Lovejoy's numbers the entire way. And Lovejoy didn't turn his back like Patrick Kaleta did on the Mike Brown hit last night. Hence, a two-game suspension. We were guessing three, but without an injury, two it is.
